  • The perils of absent minded reading...

Last night as I stood on the
subway platform waiting for the 6 train to come, I noticed the woman in
front of me reading her Harry Potter book.  (I am still on page
    4)  Absent mindedly my eyes wondered onto the text.  At first
I couldn't really make out the lines of writing.

After a few minutes my eyes started to focused and slowly the text
started to make sense.  Suddenly I felt sick.  I realized it was THE CONCLUSION of the book!  In
fact, I was reading the very passage of WHO GOT KILLED.
Unknowningly I have just now spoiled the entire book for
myself...   Who knew reading over people's shoulder can have
    such disastrous results?

  • another day, another hipster dog....

nemo's xmas outfit... ain't he the cutest?

  • The cutest cat for adoption!!!

Pinky the tubby cat needs a home, he is the sweetest, cuddlest kitty ever!  Could you be the one?  See a sweet video of Pinky.  (trust me, you want to see this!)

  • Just how
popular and available is harry potter?  Well...  I think I
got my answer this weekend.  Thinking that copies were going to be
hard to get since everyone and their baby mice is going to want to know
what our favorite wizard is up to.  I got suited up and perfectly
ready to claw, bite and chew
my way to the last copy.

However to my amazement, I was
barely even out of my front door when I see out of my downstair
drugstore window where they normally advertise specials like
tampons and diapers... sits copies of the new harry potter book.

I had no idea they even sold
books at duane reade.  Well, they don't... normally...  I
found my copy sitting right next to the toilet paper.  I suppose
that's a pretty smart combo.  The message was to me was... Buy a
copy of harry potter and some aloe scented charmin (on sale!) and throw
in one well lit bathroom, you are all set for the weekend.

Excited, I bought my copy at an exorbiant price (a whole freakin $30 US DOLLARS)
because I was too lazy to walk 3 more blocks and because my shoes were
too nice for fighting some 13 year old.  But mostly it was because
I WANTED IT NOW.  I was all ready for my weekend mission.  I
couldn't wait to find out who Harry lost his virginity to or why Ron is
such a loser or why I harbor such secret hatred for Hermione when my
    phone rang.

Days later as I nursed my
weekend hangover barely alive on my couch, I realized I didn't even
    touch my new book
once.  It's just sitting there on the counter mocking me...
seemingly saying... "you could have ordered me off amazon for $15
    less!".

Damn, I hate falling victim to
instant gratification.  I suppose I could always bring it into
work.  They do have nice toilet paper and a very well lit loo

  • so
irrelvent.... BUT I just want to say last night I promised a friend I
would bring over "in the mood for love" for movie night but to my
absolute horror I realized I don't even won it. What I had was the
movie soundtrack.  (yes, I am freakin nerd).  So in a panic,
I mentally ran through every decent video store that would sell the
movie.  Then I remembered barnes and noble had a same day delivery
policy in manhattan as long as you place the order by 11am...  So
at 10:35am I placed an order and crossed my fingers.  They
promised to deliver it by 7pm.  All day I was trying to come up
with alternatives in case B&N fail on their promise.  I figure
I could always bring over a bottle of red wine and hopefully within an
hour we would both forget it was even movie night.

Sure enough by 6:20pm on my way back from the ladies room, what do I
see but a stiff brown cardboard box sitting on my chair and a glorious
copy of a beautifully shrink wrapped "in the mood for love" is all
ready for me unwrap and devour.

ta-da.  once again same day delivery and an internet connection save the day!  oh technology, how I love you.

  • this is how hard I work at xanga.  (okay, not really... but I do type that fast, damn it!)

  • Slashdot reports "AMD Alleges Intel Compilers Create Slower AMD Code"

    "
edxwelch writes "In AMD's recient anti-trust
    lawsuit
AMD have examined the Intel compiler and found that it deliberatly runs code slower when it detects that the processor is an AMD.
"To achieve this, Intel designed the compiler to compile code
along several alternate code paths. ... By design, the
code paths were not created equally. If the program detects a "Genuine Intel" microprocessor,
it executes a fully optimized code path and operates with the maximum efficiency. However,
if the program detects an "Authentic AMD" microprocessor, it executes a different code path
that will degrade the program's performance or cause it to crash.""

    http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/07/12/1320202&from=rss

Could this be true?  I just bought an AMD machine...   Could Intel really be this unscrupulous or this stupid?
